How might we treat energy and water as the precious resources that they are? How do you become highly water efficient and treat water on site? What are the options if you can’t? What does best practice energy efficiency look like and how could your project be self-sufficient using only renewables?
This Master class covers the Living Building Challenge (LBC) Energy and Water Petals. Our three live workshops will cover the Petal requirements, explore local case studies, hear from guest speakers and apply the learnings from design through to operations.
Learning Level
This course is appropriate for anyone wanting to know more about regenerating their site with net-positive water and energy systems that work in harmony with the site. A basic understanding of regenerative design for the built environment is recommended and would provide additional valuable context.
Learning outcomes
- Understand the Energy and Water requirements of the LBC
- Demonstrate knowledge of water and energy efficiency strategies appropriate to geography and typology
- Discuss and evaluate at what scale these resources should be managed
- Evaluate and apply strategies for project water use and release to work in harmony with the natural water flows of the site and its surroundings.
- Understand and apply embodied carbon calculations and minimisation strategies
- Understand and apply hand-printing and scale-jumping to a project
- Develop a resilience strategy
- Explore local case studies and understand how their location and typology affect the energy and water strategy
